Recent Happenings (Part 2)

On the way back from Nashville, we stopped in to see Nonna and Papa–they miss their little Ty! It was a fun visit! My dad had Corey up on a ladder on the side of the house putting in storm windows! That was a first for Corey–but also good training for him! And Uncle Brian loves his nephew! He smiled so big when we came in with him! Ty is always loved on a lot when we visit his grandparents. Both grandmas can hardly put him down!

Recent Happenings (Part 1)

Well, it has been a while since I’ve last written, but lots of fun, new things are happening everday! Ty went from cooing and smiling to squealing and laughing! He can hold his head up really well now, and he loves trying to “stand up.” We hold him up, but his little leggers are getting strong! He has been scooting (and circling) around his crib for weeks, and he loves to move around and push up when he is on our laps–I think he is going to be an active boy! He is going to be 4 months old in a few weeks! I can’t believe it!

Ty went to his first wedding reception a few weekends ago. He dressed for the occasion in khaki shorts and his first sweater vest! And he made a new friend, Jake. Christy, my friend from college, had her 2 and a 1/2 month old son there. Ty and Jake became instant friends just like their mommies!

One other not-so-new thing that Ty does is that he can roll over! Well, I think it’s kind of by default–he tucks his little arm in and then I think the weight of his head rolls him over. (I caught him in the middle of a roll the other day!) It’s usually a really cute and funny thing, but sometimes he’ll cry during a nap and I have to go rescue him because he’s stuck on his back! Several times I thought he was sleeping and when I went to check on him, he was wide awake, propped up on his elbows, and looking around–not even thinking about falling asleep!

Baby Baths and Laughs

Well, I tried to give Ty a bath in his baby bathtub in the kitchen sink today. (I've been giving him sponge baths on the bathroom counter.) Everything was going well until I put him in the water. I forgot to take into account that the water level would rise when I put him in it. Needless to say, there was water everywhere--down the counters and all over me! Then there was the problem of the sink being too small for the tub...who makes those things anyway? Finally, I got him out of bathtub, snuggled him up in a towel and went to get him dressed. He was so happy and smiley, and I was just wondering why when I felt the stream of pee hit my face, my hair and my shirt! I didn't even see it coming. That little turkey!

The fun part (not that the bath wasn't fun) of today was hearing Ty laugh for the first time! We were making noises at each other and he just thought it was so funny. He has a sweet baby laugh!

Spiritual Lessons from a Mother's Eyes

I have always heard that you learn a lot about God and about His love for us through having children. It is so true! I will catch myself, at times, thinking about how incredibly much I love my sweet Ty or how I would do anything to protect him. What a parallel between my feelings for my child and God's love toward His own!

Today, or maybe it was yesterday, I was playing with Ty and watching him smile. His little face lit up and he smiled so big (that precious smile always melts my heart!) I started thinking about how much I delight in him, how that sweet baby brings so much joy and happiness to my life. And then I thought of Zephaniah 3:17, "...He will take great delight in you...He will rejoice over you with singing." I think I finally understand that verse.

How could you not delight in this little thing??? :)

Paparazzi

Poor Ty. He can't sleep, play, relax or even bathe without mommy taking all kinds of pictures of him! Sometimes, I feel like I'm the paparazzi, especially when I won't even let the poor child sleep without blinding him with the flash! But he's so irresistible!

I love bath time! Ty loves the warm water and I love seeing him smile as I pour warm water over him (until the warm water causes him to pee on mommy!!!) But my favorite part is wrapping him up in a towel and snuggling with him afterward until he warms up! It's the best! And, I still love that heinie!!!

Labor Day Weekend

I hope you all had a great Labor Day! Our weekend was a lot of fun! Mimi and Grandpa visited, so we went out for Mexican on Friday night (their tradition at home in Mayfield), went to the mall and zoo on Saturday (It was a whirlwind trip through the zoo since Ty needed to be fed and mommy's hand started stinging, itching and then swelling for no apparent reason! I'm still not sure what that was about!), and went to a Labor Day cookout in our neighborhood. Ty met his "Aunt" Casey for the first time on Friday...He loved getting to meet her and was so sad when she had to leave! Mimi and Grandpa loved hearing Ty make noises! He was so vocal this weekend! He loves to smile and coo and is the sweetest thing when he's doing it! And Grandpa (who jokingly said he wasn't going to hold Ty until he's one) held, snuggled, and played with Ty! He was great with him!

Corey and I met some new people at the cookout (other seminary students and their wives). Other mommies carried their babies in a "Baby Bjorn" which I concluded was not a bad idea after carrying Ty for so long! My sweetpea slept through the entire thing in his new little sleeper with footies. He looked absolutely adorable!

Ty is so smiley now! It's so fun! We love playing with him! He coos at us and just smiles! I love hearing and seeing him express joy! It melts my heart! He is 10 weeks old now!
