jazz in the garden
Last night, we went with some friends to the Botanical Gardens. We ate our picnic dinners while listening to jazz. It was a perfect evening--gorgeous weather, happy kiddos, and a great time with friends. Here are a few pictures from the evening, thanks to Emily for remembering her camera!

Kelli, sorry we missed you for the girls picture! You guys were already gone when we got the idea!!!

Don't try this at home
Okay, so I'm pretty sure I almost set my hair on fire today. Not good. I was round-brushing my hair dry trying to style it, which I never do for multiple reasons (the first being time, the second being that it kills my arm), but I decided to today because I have a new haircut. Everything was going normally until a big chunk of my hair turned a caramel color where I was using the brush and blow dryer. I immediately turned the dryer off but not in time to rescue my hair--tons of singed strands fell out and filled the sink. (This is crazy, I know.) So, that was the end of the round-brushing. A little vent thingy fell out of my hair dryer several months ago, and not thinking it was important, I threw it away. Well, I think that thing is what makes the hair dyer not get too hot and do what it did to my hair. Thankfully, I have a lot of hair so I don't think it's noticeable, but then again, I can't see in the back! Will you tell me if you see me and I have a bald spot???
Happy 2nd Birthday, Ty!
I can't believe my BABY is two years old!!! He is becoming such a little boy (I suppose that is what should be happening), and I couldn't be more proud of him! We spent Saturday morning at a nearby park with some friends to kickoff the big day. We had cupcakes for the kiddos and a cookie cake for the grownups. Ty ate about five cupcakes (although none of them were whole cupcakes after bits and pieces were dropped into the mulch below), chased bubbles (and tried to learn how to blow bubbles--it's kind of hard for a little one), climbed through tunnels, ran across bridges, and slid down slides. It was a really fun morning! Drew enjoyed a peaceful, outdoor nap! Ty spent the rest of the day enjoying his new toys and time with Mimi and Pee-pa.

singing "Happy Birthday" just before Ty ran away from the crowd...
Ty in his very first car! :) He kept saying, "Ty's" (which he is doing in this picture) because he couldn't believe it was his (so sweet!!!) He usually runs immediately over to a neighbor's little car the moment he steps outside, but those neighbors are moving soon and will be taking the car with them. So I'm glad he has one of his own now. He also loves to say, "Beep beep...honk honk"

My FIVE month old!
5 month accomplishments:
1. rolls over both ways like a champ!
2. likes his jumper and even discovered some of the toys on it
3. says, "mama and dadda" (just kidding--not yet)
4. but he does LOVE his hands (at least one finger if not the whole hand is usually in his mouth at any given moment during the day)

rolling over
Look at this face...
This is the proud smile of one who just rolled from his back to his tummy! Yay Drew! Now, he can officially roll both ways, although I think it will be a little while before he's really proficient! (He still gets stuck on his back and screams "like he was shot" (to borrow a Smith family phrase)! And, while he was down there, I tried to get a picture of Drew and Ty together, but it is next to impossible to get the two to be still together! Here is my new favorite picture of my lovies together...
